Our Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an informed decision which 3D/4D centre to choose?

Baby Glimpse is owned and operated by fully qualified and accredited Australian sonographers with many years of experience, with the latest Toshiba machine. We will give you beautiful 3D/4D pictures of your baby that are amazingly lifelike. Beware of centres operated by unqualified staff and/or using outdated machines. Australian sonographers are an elite group who have completed  rigorous 5 years of university study - the same cannot be said about overseas trained people.

Baby Glimpse wishes to make 3D/4D prenatal ultrasound more accessible and affordable for all pregnant women and their families to enjoy this wonderful bonding experience.

What determines 3D/4D ultrasound image quality?

Like all modern technology, the age of the ultrasound machine is the most important factor, the newer the machine, the better the hardware, software and image quality. Our machine, the Toshiba Aplio 400, is the latest in the high end Toshiba range, this equipment is being used in leading medical imaging centres in Australia and all around the world.

How many weeks into the pregnancy is the best time for a 3D/4D scan?

We do gender scans from 15 weeks and the best time to see baby’s face with 3D/4D ultrasound is around 30 weeks. Around 15 weeks, your baby is moving around constantly exercising those little muscles, she’s having a little dance party inside even if you cannot feel her yet, so its lovely to see your baby very early on and if you don’t want to know the gender just let us know, you can still enjoying seeing her/him.

At 30 weeks the baby is nice and chubby and looks exactly like a newborn, she might yawn, smile, look around and play with her feet, he/she will have developed a favourite position which carries on even after birth.

Most mums have at least two 3D/4D scans with us so they can capture a great collection of pictures and movements of the baby from when she’s a jelly bean to a full grown little person.
Twins will naturally run out of room quicker and we recommend seeing their little faces around 26 weeks, gender of twins can still be done at 15 weeks.

Am I guaranteed to see my baby's features very clearly?

Baby Glimpse uses the latest technology coupled with the sonographer's expertise to endeavour to give you the best possible 3D/4D images. However, many other factors that affect the image are out of anyone's control, such as, but not limited to, amniotic fluid level, mums body size, position of the placenta and baby. Very slim women should have their scan done earlier when baby’s not so cramped, and bigger women should wait ‘til baby is bigger and easier to see.

If your baby is uncooperative on the day, you’ll be asked to walk around and have something to eat or drink to try to get the baby into a better position, if she’s super stubborn we will reschedule your appointment for another day.

As much as we’d like to turn water into wine and part the red sea, we are not miracle workers, so while the technology is fantastic and our sonographers have tricks up their sleeves, its best to keep things in perspective. We are working with unborn babies and there are limitations to what can be achieved. At the end of the day, you’re having a healthy baby and that’s all that matters.

I already had a routine ultrasound and was given a picture of my baby, why would I have another scan at Baby Glimpse?

Routine diagnostic ultrasounds are invaluable in assessing your pregnancy and your unborn baby's wellbeing, but the images are taken for its diagnostic value and often make little sense to the layperson. At Baby Glimpse we concentrate on getting the images that will satisfy and delight you.

Imagine seeing your baby in real time in 3D on our big screen waving, yawning and smiling! At the end of your session you will walk away with a complete package of photos, DVD and CD, a precious memento of your little one.

How safe is ultrasound during pregnancy?

Ultrasound uses soundwaves to build an image, there is no harmful radiation whatsoever; this technology has been around for several decades, one of its major applications being pregnancy ultrasounds. There are no known side-effects.
